A BIBLICAL MODEL: The Early Church in Acts 2:44-45 "All
the believers were together and had everything in common.
Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone
as he had need."
THE NAME: Matthew 13:44 "The Kingdom of Heaven is
like a treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it,
he hid it again, and then in his joy, went and sold all
he had and bought that field."
The first charity shop which opened in East London on the 2nd June,
2003 was our flagship. Born from a burden to assist Baptist
Manse families in crisis, as well as ministry projects in
the rural areas, the Baptist Women's Department supported
Tere Basson and May Shenton, to initiate this venture. All
the East London churches participated by donating used household
items, furniture and clothing. We appealed for volunteers
to work in the shop and have been overwhelmed by the support
of our community. Our shop has been a tremendous success
and we have since opened 9 more.

What is so exciting about our Hidden Treasure chairty shops is
that they are positioned in the 'market place'.
People who do not attend church, will
gladly come in to find a bargain. They are greeted by true
Christ-followers who are willing to serve people of all
ages, cultures and classes: Each one is treated with love
and respect. We truly value our customers. |
